Game Report Chiles 1, Leon 3
January 7, 2005
Chiles played Leon Friday, January 7. This was the second district match between
the 2 sides, and the third match between the two sides during the year. In the Kick Off Classic
Leon bested the Chiles squad, who was playing
without a number of players, 1-3. In the
first district match between the two, played at the Leon pitch, Chiles came out on top 2-1. Leon visited the Chiles pitch for this match.
Leon started the match strong,
while Chiles came out a little flat,
resulting in Leon controlling the ball most of
the time. Midway through the first half
Leon took an early lead when Leon forward Craig Costigan
was able to beat the Chiles defender got a shot just by Chiles keeper Mike
Turner to put Leon up 1-0. Later in the
half Leon midfielder Clayton Hinson worked past the defender on the left side
and took a shot from just outside of the box to the right post which slipped by
the diving Mike Turner, extending the Leon lead to 2-0, where it stayed at
halftime.
Coach
Gill’s halftime talk to the boys certainly worked, as Chiles came storming out to begin
the second half. The Chiles side was controlling the ball
and dominating play, resulting in a pass from CJ Heard to Gary Warner at the 49
minute mark who slammed the ball into the net. The boys continued to play with a high level
of intensity and emotion, controlling the play; however, in a breakdown late in
the second half Leon forward Davey
Beck was able to get a shot past Mike Turner putting Leon up 3-1. While Chiles continued to fight hard for
the remainder of the match and had opportunities, none were successful and Leon took this round with a 3-1
victory.
Chiles is now 8-5-2,
and 4-2 in district play.
Chiles’ next game is at Godby
Tuesday, January 11, and then meets Lincoln at home Wednesday, January 12.
